In our next edition of our “Meet the Team Series”, we talk to Neeraj Adsul, who leads the development of the Abingdon Health lateral flow reader technology.

What does a normal day entail for you?

“I manage the lateral flow reader instrumentation team. My days are very varied, which I enjoy. The typical day to day activities includes further development of the ADxLR5® reader; software, circuits and user-interfaces, and writing a wide range of technical documentation.

“Recently, my team played a leading role in the launch of AppDx, a customisable Smartphone reader. Working on this project has been a very enjoyable and the potential for the App ‘in-the-field’ is wide and varied.

“I have also managed the application process for our latest successful Innovate UK Grant Award. The grant will be used to fund the development of a dual capability colorimetric and time-resolved fluorescence lateral flow reader; I am looking forward to getting started on this project, early 2019“.

What do you like most about working at Abingdon Health?

“We have many ADxLR5 development projects with our contract services customers and I enjoy the interaction with them learning about their different assays and understanding their particular workflow needs to incorporate this into the software for their reader development projects.”

What do you think the future holds for quantitative data within the lateral flow industry?

“As lateral-flow technology is maturing, multitudes of assays are capable of delivering quantitative performance. Multiplexing of assays has become the norm. Therefore, high-performance reader technology is crucial to get the best value from the lateral flow tests. It’s an exciting time for me as Abingdon Health has been a key driving force in the industry.”

What are your interests outside of work?

“I love cycling, and I commute to work on my bike throughout the year. Like my colleague Hayley, I completed the Myeloma UK’s London to Paris bike ride in 2016. I love hiking and skiing in the mountains whenever possible. I am a strong believer in repair-reuse-recycle principles and strive to adhere to it.”
