PCRD: nucleic acid lateral flow
Rapid, portable nucleic acid detection that pairs molecular amplification with a simple lateral flow readout, so results do not need a laboratory reader.
Diagnostic products and technologies developed by the Abingdon Health group, from molecular lateral flow to smartphone reader software.
Diagnostics
Alongside our contract services, the group develops its own technologies. PCRD combines molecular amplification with a lateral flow readout for rapid nucleic acid detection. Consumer self-tests are available B2B through Abingdon Simply Test. Pocket Diagnostic® is for agritech applications. AppDx® is a patented smartphone lateral flow reading software suite.
Products
Rapid, portable nucleic acid detection that pairs molecular amplification with a simple lateral flow readout, so results do not need a laboratory reader.
Consumer self-tests supplied B2B to retailers, pharmacies and healthcare providers.
Rapid lateral flow tests for agritech, including plant health tests that detect crop diseases in the field.
Patented smartphone reader software that turns a phone camera into an accurate lateral flow reader with secure data capture.
AppDx®
Data is vital for diagnostics in all industries. It supports rapid and personalised responses to diagnosis, auditable data collection and electronic patient record maintenance, as well as research and outbreak response.
AppDx® is Abingdon Health’s proprietary diagnostics smartphone reader app. It integrates AI-enabled machine learning with the phone’s camera and connectivity to create a powerful, mobile lateral flow reader. Rapid test results are captured accurately and shared securely with data capture systems, giving patients, clinicians and users real-time data.
Why AppDx®
Remote access and analysis of secure, shareable data for faster diagnosis and results-record handling.
Flexibility over when and where test data is gathered, with off-site validation of results to support treatment pathways.
Immediate electronic results capture by users or clinicians, reducing administrative burden while improving data quality.
Fewer result interpretation errors, with GPS locations, times, dates and test results recorded.
Intuitive workflows supported by easy-to-understand user guides.
How AppDx® works
Scroll through the AppDx® app, from the home screen to a recorded result.
AppDx home screen with user greeting and “start scan” button with ability to view their recent results.
User selects which self-test to scan (e.g. vitamin D, iron/ferritin deficiency or thyroid) from a simple list showing common symptoms for each.
Pre-capture instructions displayed to user with “open camera” button.
User aligns the test device inside the green guideline frame, holds steady and taps the shutter to capture a good photo.
Photo is securely uploaded to AppDx server, analysed, and results recorded, with progress tracker for user information.
User views the result linked to test parameters with a confidence score, control and test line status and test details. User confirms result, and can share or click “done” to return to home screen.
From the home screen, users can review all previous tests grouped by date, and each result at a glance with a colour-coded status.
